GAZA, March 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Izel Dein Al Qassam, an armed wing of Islamic resistance movement Hamas, announced Monday that its militants attacked several Jewish settlements in Gaza Strip.
The group said in a statement that its militants fired at least eight mortar shells at Morag settlement near the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, adding that the shells hit several targets in the settlement.'
The statement also claimed responsibility for attacking the Jewish settlement of Nisanit in the northern Gaza Strip.
Israel Radio confirmed the two attacks on the settlements, but said that there were no injuries reported.
Shortly after the two attacks, Israeli F-16 warplanes flew over the Gaza Strip, causing panic among the residents who worried the Israeli planes might hit Palestinian targets in retaliation for thesettlement attacks.
Israel Radio reported the Israeli forces had informed the Jewishsettlers living in the settlements in the Gaza Strip to be careful and hide in underground shelters in case the Palestinians attacked them.
Meanwhile, Saraya Al Quds, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad said on Monday that its militants fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli army convoy in the south of Gaza, where an Israeli army spokesman said no injuries were reported."
